The Recreational Academy Development (R.A.D.) Program is the bridge between recreational and competitive soccer for the U9/U10 age group — introduced by MAYSO in the spring 2017 season and now part of the NXT SC Florida pathway at GT Bray Park.

MAYSO runs two levels of soccer: recreational, where players are introduced to the game and learn the basic rules and skills, and competitive, where players are selected to a team at tryouts — the youngest competitive age group starts at U11. R.A.D. exists to identify the players ready to make that transition, and to challenge the ones on the edge.

HOW R.A.D. DIFFERS FROM STANDARD REC

  • Team rankings — wins, losses, and ties are tracked and posted weekly to MAYSO.org (no scores or goal differential). Every player still receives an end-of-season participation award, and the first-place team earns an end-of-season party.
  • Academy training — multiple MAYSO-licensed trainers organize and run every practice night: individual ball control, trapping, passing, and shot striking through to more advanced game tactics, with the correct, positive feedback young players need to stay interested and succeed.
  • Parent & coach volunteers — parents are still needed to assist during practices and lead on game days. Competitive teams need coaches too, and the best way to get coaches is to develop them.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Cleats and shin guards
  • A labeled soccer ball
